Galahad’s First Boots!

This has been a very exciting week for me.  As Galahad is an Exmoor he needs very little stuff – no rugs or anything.  This is a shame because I love buying horsey things.  However, since we have started going to a couple of shows it seems like an excellent excuse to do some shopping!  Hence – Galahad’s first boots.

Sorry the video is rather short, my camera ran out of battery.  He was surprisingly unfazed by them.  I also bought him a tail bandage.  Unfortunately I needed it at rather short notice for our show last week and the only colour left was bright pink:DSCN3445

In the end it didn’t come in time and I did consider returning it in favour of a blue or green one but as I would have to pay the return postage which would be more than the cost of the thing itself it didn’t seem worth it.  Galahad is going to be one snazzy pony!

In other news, we are able to gallop on our neighbour’s fields again, hurrah!  We have a lovely wide path to play with, although Galahad still thinks that sometimes it is fun to swerve into the long stuff.  My boots get filled up with grass seeds!20150803_135954

Raindrops

I had to stop on our ride this morning to take a picture of the rain on this grass.  Isn’t it beautiful?

20150707_081438Remember how long the grass was in my neighbour’s field?  Look what the rain over the past few days has done to it!  Clearly the docks are made of sterner stuff.20150707_080342

Given Galahad’s mild panic on Sunday some desensitisation seemed like a good idea before taking him to a show – I can be as aware as possible of what might scare him but I can’t actually stop people running about and flapping things.  When we got back from our hack my Mum followed us across the field whooping, clapping and waving her arms about.  Galahad was obviously aware she was there but apart from turning his ears towards her he didn’t really react and walked the whole way on a loose rein.  This is progress indeed!

We have some new residents on the yard:DSCN3386These are Flopsy and Mopsy.  Cottontail just made it into the hedge before I could take the picture.  For about a week Flopsy was in the yard whenever I went up there but she has got braver and joined a little gang in the field now.  There are so many baby bunnies about this year!

A Misapprehension…

I have rather naively always thought that grooming a pony was the way to keep it clean.  In fact it turns out that all it really does is move the dirt around a bit until he is a nice uniform grey colour.

The ponies have just spent a couple of weeks away so they could see the dentist and have their backs checked.  They got turned out a lot in the school and they loved rolling in the sand!  Although it looks like I haven’t got anything off him his footprints clearly show that I was achieving something.  Just not very much.

The ponies are now home again and are relishing being back in their own field.  It is very obvious that they have been away – sand is no longer a problem but the grass is!  Waistlines will have to be kept under strict supervision.

We went for an early morning canter through our neighbour’s fields yesterday.  The grass has also grown rather a lot there since we last rode that way.  Galahad only has little legs and it was an odd feeling riding with my feet dragging through the grass!  He seemed to love bounding along though and we had a lovely time.  This is what makes all the hard work worthwhile.
